A new program in Los Angeles, California, aims to make sure all kids can play sports. PlayLA offers sports programs for free or at a low price. They include 24 traditional sports and 14 adaptive sports, which are designed so that people with disabilities can participate.
One popular adaptive sport is wheelchair basketball. Another game, called goalball, is for players with vision impairments. In this game, blindfolded players roll a ball over a goal line. The ball contains bells so players can hear where it is.
“Adaptive sports are for everyone,” says Edna Degollado, the director of Neighborhood Services for Los Angeles.
