Tigers live in dense forests in remote parts of Asia. That makes the animals hard for scientists to study. To observe tigers in the wild, staff at the Kanha Tiger Reserve in India recently hid six cameras across the protected area. Over six months, the cameras took 2,000 photos of the big cats!
The images showed scenes of tigers fighting over food and cubs hiding in hollow tree trunks. The photos can help scientists understand tiger behavior. “They let us peep into the unseen lives of these animals,” says photographer Yashpal Rathore, who set up the cameras.
Tigers are in danger of dying out. They’re losing their habitat to cities and farms. Rathore hopes the pictures will inspire people all over the world to care more about tigers.
